The Downtown Cabaret Theatre Children's Company will open its 25th anniversary season on September 30th with the world premiere stage production of "Cinderella Skeleton" based on the popular children's book by Robert D. San Souci.

"Cinderella Skeleton" is a frightfully delightful version of the Cinderella fairy tale set in a fantastical graveyard called Boneyard Acres. In this seasonal tale, the main character is not the lonely maiden forced to sweep floors and ashes, instead she is a sweet skeleton made to hang cobwebs and feed the bats. The prince's ball takes place on Halloween night, and there is a joyous 'happy ever after' ending.

Artistic Director Bert Bernardi has adapted "Cinderella Skeleton" from the book, which has been popular with young readers since it was first published in 2000. The show also features an original pop music score by composer Scott Simonelli with lyrics by Mr. Bernardi.

"What an exciting way to celebrate our 25th season," says Bernardi. "Its our first adaptation of a popular, contemporary children's book. It's fresh, funny, and the music is sensational," he adds.

Author Robert D. San Souci is well known for his retellings for folk and fairy tales. He has written 83 books including "Sootface," "Talking Eggs," The Faithful Friend" and "Dare to be Scared." He also wrote the story for Disney's "Mulan." The award-winning author is based in San Francisco and his new publication is "Sister Tricksters."
